Flying 'high'

Dear readers, if you are afraid of getting addicted: don’t try paragliding and stop reading!!!
Although being from the much talked about country with the legalised highs on marihuana, I have never tried that. However, I sampled the better stuff now: Paragliding.
Inspired by the sights of paragliders in the Alps I decided it was time to take off to the skies when I found out about Temple Pilots during my tenure in India. This gave me a good reason as well to escape the bustling city of Bombay, which I do enjoy as long as I get out of it regularly. I was welcomed by Avi&Anita and the rest of the Temple Pilots team; it felt good from the beginning.
The P1 course started with ground handling sessions to learn how to control the glider and to get your first airtime which, because being only seconds, makes you want to taste more. After a few ground handling sessions, at the end of the second day the moment was there for me: time for the first flight. Thrilled by the idea of flying free like a bird I slightly nervously did my pre-flight checks and informed the instructor I was ready. After brief instructions for my flight I inflated the canopy, ran and suddenly found myself in the air. After a few turns I touched down smoothly. Wow! I was happy that Avi told me to look around and enjoy the fantastic views of a sunset on Pavna lake as well, being focussed on the flying I almost forgot about that.
After another two flights on my second day I concluded that this was good stuff, probably better than marihuana. And the good thing is: it’s legal around the globe! Which brings me back to my first point, probably you’re better of here in India with some beautifull flying sites against my completely flat home country with legal marihuana.

Enjoy the skies,

- Jaco Luijendijk

p.s. I came back for the P2 course and my logged flying time keeps on increasing
