Paragliding sites in Other parts of India
The Great Indian Desert with the Aravalli hill ranges,
the various ancient Fort-towns and the colourful culture of
Rajasthan offers a very different kind of flying. One popular
tourist destination Pushkar, is also where flying is possible
is Pushkar. Rajasthan too is largely unexplored.
The Indian Peninsula is surrounded by the Arabian Sea
in the west, the Bay of Bengal in the east and the Indian Ocean
below. Along the peninsula, are The Western Ghats on
the Deccan Plateau, which make for some amazing flatland flying
and most of it yet unexplored. Here flying is possible almost
EVERYDAY and holds a lot of promise for paragliding pilots
of all levels. This area offers abundant possibilities to beginner
and XC pilots alike.
The flying season in this area extends between
October and June after which come the monsoons.with lashing
rains and misty days turning the rugged mountain landscape
into a lush green haven of waterfalls and meadows.
The topography has low hills, lot of lakes, rocky terrain,
with endless flatlands and ridges sculpted specially for paragliding
with every bend in the road revealing a new set of ridges welcoming
to be flown.
In the summer's (March to June) thermals begin to trigger
early in the day and get quite punchy as the temperatures rise
by noon. These are dream conditions for any pilot aiming for
distance flying. As the thermals die, the evenings treat pilots
to some amazing ridge soaring and one can gain enough altitude
to practise aerobatics. The winters (November to February)
are relatively less cold compared to winters in any other part
of the world. No special winter clothing is required and the
winter sun is soothing.
Flying sites here range from flying over
magnificient forts(like Raigarh) overlooking forests and valleys,
popular hill stations(like Panchgani) overlooking lakes and
rivers. One can thermal to long distances over flatlands interspersed
with hills n' ridges (at Kamshet) to smooth soaring at the
coast in more popular Goa (Arambole Beach) or more virgin Ratnagiri.
The land is ruggedly beautiful and the people
are warm and friendly. The pace the land sets is easy and slow. and
most have time for a smile and light conversation. You will
discover its innate simplicity and loving curiosity in its
people, puppies and cows.India is a country with a culture
that is generous of heart and heritage that is ancient and
mystic.
Paragliding in south India
Most hill stations in South India make for some very exotic
flying with splendid views. Ooty, a picturesque hill sation
in the Blue Mountains, popularly known as "Nilgiris" (meaning
Blue Mountains) overlooking the Bandipur and Mudumalai Forests
is the more popular sites in the inland south. There are others
like Kodaikanal, one of the best hill station in South India,
Waynad and Munnar.
Further south in Kerela there are various paragliding sites both
inland and coastal. more popular ones are at Munnar (tea plantations),
Elavizha Poonchira, near Varkala Beach, and Vaggamon.
The promise of good flying is almost everyday from October
to June. Rocking thermals to laminar evening breeze for some
low n' slow flyin' over the ridge to altitude for across to
doin' distances to exploring new sites and terrain to merely
loggin' hours to what have you.. |
