Paragliding Course in Kamshet, SIV Course - Temple Pilots

SIV (Simulation In Vol)

"Coming from a fighter flying background I know how important it is, as a pilot, to know what your glider can & can’t do, how far you can push it and how to recognise & recover from situations you may encounter during your XC & Acro flying. This is the course that will truly make you comfortable under your wing and give you real confidence in your ability to handle your glider well – your First Solo Flight."
Avi Malik
Founder, Temple Pilots

Simulation d’Incident en Vol (Simulation of Incident in Flight)

The SIV Simulation d’Incident en Vol (Simulation of Incident in Flight) is primarily a Safety Training Course. This course is designed to know the glider’s limits and learn to avoid and recover from flight incidents. You will learn about your glider’s behaviour and how to give correct inputs in different unstable situations. It’s a progression for solo pilots on their way to becoming Advanced pilots. The aim of SIV is to teach you about the handling characteristics of your wing at the edges of its flight envelope.

SIV Safety Clinic is designed to make you comfortable in the sky with your glider and confident in your ability to control your glider in demanding situations. SIV gives you a better understanding, better instincts and freer mind to enjoy your flying and to go further in your game.

Why You Should Do the SIV Course

If you’ve recently acquired a new paragliding wing or are transitioning to a higher-performance wing, participating in an SIV course can be invaluable for familiarizing yourself with the wing’s characteristics, handling nuances, and safety features. SIV training with a new wing allows you to gain confidence, refine your piloting skills, and develop a deeper understanding of the wing’s behavior in various flight scenarios. Consider scheduling an SIV course shortly after acquiring a new wing to optimize your flying experience and ensure a smooth transition to flying with confidence and proficiency.

SIV courses are valuable for enhancing piloting skills, mastering maneuvers, and improving safety awareness. If you’re actively working on advancing your skills or refining specific maneuvers, participating in SIV courses more frequently may be beneficial.

Beginners may benefit from participating in SIV courses less frequently initially, focusing on building a solid foundation of basic skills before progressing to more advanced maneuvers. Intermediate to advanced pilots who have already completed SIV training may choose to participate in refresher courses periodically to maintain and enhance their skills.

SIV courses involve practicing maneuvers that simulate potentially dangerous situations, such as stalls and collapses. It’s essential to strike a balance between gaining proficiency in handling these maneuvers and mitigating the associated risks. Participating in SIV courses too frequently without adequate skill development or supervision may increase the risk of accidents.

Consider your individual goals and aspirations as a paraglider pilot. If you’re pursuing aerobatics or competition flying, participating in SIV courses more frequently may be necessary to stay competitive and maintain proficiency. On the other hand, if you primarily fly for recreational purposes, participating in SIV courses on an occasional basis may suffice.

Professional, Friendly, and Highly Recommended Team

I did a SIV course a couple of weeks ago with Temple Pilots in Bilaspur.
It’s been a great experience.
I learnt a lot thanks to the experienced guidance of the team and talking to other experienced pilots taking part to the course.
The team has been very helpful in every aspect including reserve re packs, prompt and efficient rescue boat and fun to hang out with.
We had in depth briefings and de brief at the end of the day.
A big part of the experience, for me coming from out of India, was living with the locals.
Very kind and friendly families hosted us and cooked for us delicious, home made healthy food.
It’s been a retreat in some ways too.
Staying at the village on top of the hill was very relaxing and immersed in the surrounding nature.
I highly recommend Temple Pilots to anyone, from beginner level to more experienced pilots.
Thanks again to everyone involved, looking forward to meeting you again

Happy landings,
Ramon

Advanced SIV Training with Temple Pilots

SIV Advanced Course with Temple Pilots in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh, India – October 2023

Having completed my initial SIV (Simulation d’Incident en Vol) training with Temple Pilots (TP) in Bilaspur in October 2021, I signed up for a second SIV course with TP in October 2023.

Bilaspur, conveniently located just three hours away from Chandigarh Airport, offers the perfect setting for this training, with the Sutlej River providing an excellent waterbody, along with complete infrastructure and ground support for SIV maneuvers.

As a student of Temple Pilots for nearly six years now, I currently find myself at the P4- level with more than 200 flights and over 80 flying hours under my belt. I recently transitioned to an EN B glider, the Niviuk Hook 6, from my previous EN A glider, the Gin Bolero 6.
SIV training serves two vital purposes for every pilot. First, it equips us to effectively handle emergency situations in-flight by simulating potential incidents. Second, it allows us to gain deep insights into our glider’s behavior and limitations.

It was an obvious decision for me to opt for SIV training with Temple Pilots. TP has been well-acquainted with my skill level, as well as my areas of improvement, which made it an ideal fit for my training needs.

The course commenced on October 1st and began with exercises focused on mastering pitch and roll controls. In the ensuing days, we progressively delved into more complex maneuvers, such as asymmetrical collapses with and without the use of speed bar, asymmetric collapses, frontal collapses, A-line and B-line stalls, riser twists, spiral dives with clean and dynamic exits, wing overs, and more. Unfortunately, due to my limited course duration, I was unable to execute deep stalls, a maneuver I had performed in my prior SIV training.

Each morning, we were treated to comprehensive pre-maneuver briefings, addressing any questions and concerns. Throughout our flights, clear and precise radio instructions guided us, prioritizing safety as the highest concern.
At the end of each day, debriefing sessions provided the opportunity for every pilot to share their experiences and receive further guidance.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Avi sir and Jitu Sir, whose expertise and efficiency ensured an incident-free and highly productive course.

Our stay at Bilaspur’s home-stay on Bandla Hill top was amazing. The delicious organic homegrown food, the warm hospitality, the friendly kids, and the beautiful surroundings made the entire experience memorable.

Exceptional SIV Training with Temple Pilots

I recently had the opportunity to participate in the SIV course with Temple Pilots, and I must say it was an exceptional experience! The expert instructors were incredibly knowledgeable and patient, ensuring that all participants felt comfortable and confident throughout the course. The well-structured curriculum covered essential safety techniques and advanced maneuvers, allowing us to gain valuable insights and improve our paragliding skills dramatically.

The breathtaking location of Bilaspur (HP) only added to the overall enjoyment of the course, offering stunning views and excellent flying conditions. The camaraderie among fellow paragliders made for a fantastic atmosphere, where we could learn from each other and create unforgettable memories.

I highly recommend this SIV course to anyone looking to enhance their skills, build confidence in the air, and experience the thrill of paragliding in a safe and supportive environment. Kudos to the entire team for their exceptional dedication and professionalism!

Temple Pilots: Informative and Enjoyable Training

When the SIV at Bilaspur was cancelled at the last minute due to a VVIP visit, Temple Pilots was able to quickly arrange a Pre-SIV at Bir instead. It was fun doing the collapses, timed 360s and other Pre-SIV manouvers that one rarely does in regular flying. TP’s briefing and debriefing sessions were fun and informative as always.
