The SIV is primarily a Safety Training Course. This Course is designed to know the glider’s limits and learn to avoid and recover from flight incidents. You will learn about your glider’s behaviour and how to give correct inputs in different unstable situations. It’s a progression for solo pilots on their way to becoming Advanced pilots.
SIV stands for ‘Simulation d’Incident en Vol’ meaning ‘Simulation of Incidents in Flight’
It is a Safety Training Clinic wherein paragliding pilots are trained to understand glider
behaviour & improve their reactions in extreme situations. Pilots are progressively
introduced to unstable situations, building up to more complicated manoeuvres.
The SIV course is always conducted over water with the use of buoyancy aids, radios,
video equipment and Rescue boats etc. This course is conducted worldwide
only by Qualified SIV Instructors. The manoeuvres analysed here are for educational purposes.
Don’t try them on your own until you’ve gone on an SIV course,
where you’ll receive a more complete theoretical framework
and be shown the possible dangers you might not be aware of.
